Holcim El Salvador promotes use of sustainable resources to improve the environment

Written by Coralia Cuellar

Holcim El Salvador as part of the Grupo Holcim, a global leader in innovative and sustainable solutions for construction, is making it possible to have greener cities, smarter infrastructure and improved living standards for people around the world.

This year the company undertook a rebranding of its corporate identity in El Salvador and Latin America to help identify Holcim's commitment to sustainability, people and the planet.

The company is driving circular construction as a global leader in recycling to build more with less.

The logo represents infinity; that is, the endless possibilities that can be made available to the construction sector, expanding the offerings from being suppliers of cement, concrete and aggregates to being a company that provides innovative and sustainable construction solutions.

"The transformation is represented by four pillars: Climate & Energy, Circular Economy, Nature and People. Regarding Climate and Energy, Holcim seeks to become a Net Zero company by 2050. In addition, this aims to improve production processes and expand the supply of low-carbon solutions", said Melissa Montalvo, head of Corporate Affairs at Holcim El Salvador.

ECOPact is the concrete that approximately one year ago was placed in the country and represents 25% of the company's sales, generating more environmental awareness and a positive representation for the future.

The company is currently building a solar park in the department of Metapán, in alliance with AES El Salvador, which will supply up to 21% of energy consumption, meaning that part of the cement production will use renewable energy.

Holcim is also focused on introducing green mobility in its local operation with electric cars and hopes that advances in local regulation and infrastructure will improve to promote this method that contributes to the reduction of its carbon footprint.

In the case of the circular economy, the company is taking steps to replace the use of traditional fuel and take advantage of the energetic properties of waste to incorporate it into cement production.

The company will soon inaugurate a municipal waste separation plant, the first in El Salvador, at the ASEMUSA station in the department of Santa Ana.

There is also a plan to incorporate construction demolition waste, meaning that concrete waste will be recycled, demolished, and reused in construction projects.
