Written by Evelyn Alas

The minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Oscar Guardado, toured some of the crops and the biofactory of more than 150 producers in the canton of El Coco de Chalchuapa, Santa Ana, which are part of the Sembrando Vida program of the Agencia Mexicana de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AMEXCID) and which has specialized technical assistance from the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG).

The Minister of Agriculture and Livestock emphasized the importance of implementing Buenas Prácticas Agrícolas (BPA) to increase the country's productivity and protect the environment with government initiatives and the support of international cooperation.

"We are working in a gradual and sustained manner in an effort to achieve a climate of peace, which is already a reality. Now we must continue to build a productive agricultural sector and connections to local and international markets with a vision for the future", said minister Guardado.

The official also highlighted the importance of the technical support provided by MAG and its affiliates, such as the Centro Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria y Forestal (CENTA), the institution responsible for identifying the beneficiaries of the Sembrando Vida program and determining which crops can be promoted.

Raymundo Velázquez, administrative attaché of the Mexican Embassy in El Salvador, explained that the AMEXCID program includes three components to strengthen farmers: financing, agricultural packages (seeds and tools) and technical assistance from salvadoran specialists.

In addition, Chávez emphasized that Sembrando Vida allows producers to implement BPA to protect soils, increase production and promote the local economy.
