10 ways to celebrate Valentine's Day while single

Written by Evelyn Alas

Valentine's Day is a special date for couples to enjoy a day full of love, make a special plan and show their affection in many ways.

However, being single does not mean that this date should be overlooked, since many activities can be carried out without the need of having a "better half".

"Valentine's Day is a day to commemorate love for your partner, but also for yourself, your family and friends", recalls Marianela Arias, sexologist at Durex.

If you are single, take note of the following ideas offered by Arias to celebrate and enjoy this date:

  1. Take a trip to a place you don't know yet. It can be alone or accompanied by a friend or family member.
  1. Watch funny movies. Smile a lot
  1. Go out with friends. Plan a lunch or dinner with close friends, and share jokes, anecdotes, goals
  1. Visit a loved one. Surprise a friend or family member on this date, show the affection you have for that person. This visit can completely change and improve the day for both of you
  1. Give yourself a treat. Schedule a massage session, buy a set of clothes or treat your taste buds
  1. Enjoy relaxing, leisurely baths. This simple practice will give you a space to relax and connect with your body
  1. Write yourself a love letter. Take paper and pencil and write down how wonderful you are, all your qualities, how proud you are of yourself and the love you have for yourself
  1. Sign up for a course or a hobby that you have always wanted to pursue
  1. Go shopping and/or have lunch at a restaurant we love and enjoy the moment with ourselves
  1. Create a very personal ritual that we commit to fulfill every february 14.
