The Banco Central de Reserva (BCR) through its social networks has informed that the currency of US$0.50 cents, is usable in any economic transaction within El Salvador.

The currency currently circulates in the United States and, therefore, is also legal tender in the country, this coin has the second highest denomination of all U.S. currencies, after the US$1.00 coin.

The coin is not very common and is rarely used, but can be identified by the following characteristics:

The coin, on its front side (the so-called Face) has the portrait of President John F. Kennedy, the word carried by all U.S. dollar coins, liberty, the national motto (In God we trust) and the year in which the coin was produced.

On the reverse, (the crown or cross) has as design the name of the country, the presidential seal (based on the obverse of the Great Seal of the United States), the traditional motto, (E Pluribus Unum).

So, if you get your hands on one of these strange coins, remember that they are totally legal and in regular use.
