In the fourth edition of the Congreso Regional de Sostenibilidad Ambiental CRESA, the conference "Sustainable Transformation: Industrial Artificial Intelligence in the Vanguard of Efficiency and Environmental Responsibility" was given by the representative of the World Economic Forum Valentin Golovtchenko, Climate Technology Leader for the center of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

In the presentation Golovtchenko explained the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in business and environmental contexts, where it raises ethical, technological, and social considerations crucial for environmental development.

The World Economic Forum representative said that in terms of ethics, it is critical to address privacy, transparency, and fairness to align AI systems with ethical values, prioritizing environmental sustainability and human well-being. In addition, he shared that it is crucial to recognize the inherent limitations of AI, such as its algorithmic complexity and reliance on data, promoting common standards and transparency to facilitate collaboration and innovation.

He also emphasized the rapid proliferation of AI, and how it poses societal challenges, such as unequal distribution of access to technology and potential economic and social disruption. The lack of sound regulatory frameworks can hinder compliance with legal and ethical standards, especially on sensitive issues such as environmental protection.

He said that governments play a central role in establishing policy and regulatory frameworks to encourage sustainable practices and technology development, and that companies have influence by prioritizing sustainability in their strategic decisions and collaborating with industry associations and the supply chain.

Investment and innovation in AI are essential to address sustainability challenges, and engaging developers, investors and end users can accelerate the adoption of sustainable solutions. Civil society organizations also play a crucial role in raising awareness, advocating for policy change, and mobilizing collective action. Education is key to promoting environmental and technological literacy, empowering people to adopt sustainable behaviors and drive innovation.
