The  Asociación Cafetalera de El Salvador (ACAFESAL)  and Five Points Trading Corp. have as a short term goal to harvest around 300 thousand quintals of coffee using agroecological techniques of the 900 thousand quintals that they have estimated to produce for the next harvests.

Luis Castillo, CEO of Five Points Trading Corp. emphasized that it is necessary to think about the future since the market for the grain will change, because one of the requirements to sell coffee will be to produce coffee free of pesticides and substances harmful to the human body. In five years, the company and ACAFESAL plan to have a production of certified organic specialty coffees.

"It is projected that in two years Europe will not be able to import products that are not produced organically, and the United States is on the same path; that is why we must prepare El Salvador to continue selling, if we don't, they will take us out of the market", said the businessman during his lecture at the event "The best flavors of coffee from El Salvador", held last week in Los Angeles, California, before a select group of importers based in the United States.

Castillo highlighted that it is feasible to produce coffee with agroecological methods and obtain profitability even before the harvest.

The director of the Board of Directors of ACAFESAL, Erick López Granados, explained that there are an estimated 175,000 hectares to cultivate this type of coffee of the Bourbón, Cuscatleco, Pacas, Caturra, Marcellesa and Pacamara varieties.

ACAFESAL and Five Points Trading Corp. have the objective that the coffee crop becomes profitable from the first year, with the planting of red silk beans that will then be sold as seed in Maryland thanks to an agreement signed with the Secretary of Agriculture of Maryland, Kevin Atticks, which will get a better price than if the product is marketed as food.

Five Points Trading Corp. and ACAFESAL have an agreement to help medium and small producers to cultivate with environmentally friendly techniques that includes the implementation of the use of biofertilizers of the Nutri-GreenCrop agro ecological line elaborated by the company, in exchange the company advises and supports in the commercialization of the so-called golden grain in the United States to find better prices than those quoted in the New York Stock Exchange.
