Written by Evelyn Alas

The Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores continues to be fully dedicated to respond to the main needs of the inhabitants of the areas delimited by the Judgment of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) of september 11, 1992, within the framework of its functions as the El Salvador-Honduras Follow-up Commission, El Salvador Section.

To this end, it works in coordination with various institutions on initiatives that contribute to the welfare and development of these territories.

Thus, in coordination with the Ministerio de Obras Públicas MOP), infrastructure projects have been implemented to facilitate the transit of inhabitants in three of the demarcated areas: Dolores - Monteca, Sabanetas-Nahuaterique and Arcatao-Sazalapa, located in the north of the departments of La Unión, Morazán and Chalatenango, respectively.

Four crosswalks will be built in these places, which were requested by these communities during the meetings held with the Vice Chancellor of the Republic, Adriana Mira, who traveled to these localities to learn first-hand about the conditions and specific needs of the inhabitants of each of the delimited territories.

As part of the construction process of these works, yesterday, MOP technicians carried out inspection tasks of the points where the structures will be erected, over rivers and streams, which will not only favor the circulation of people, but will also protect the physical integrity of passers-by.

These works will benefit approximately 6,000 people living in the three locations mentioned above.

Always in attention to these sectors, the Foreign Ministry has coordinated with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology the delivery of school supplies, shoes and uniforms to hundreds of students. This benefit was also extended to 108 schoolchildren from the border area of San Fernando, Chalatenango, who recently received uniforms so that they can attend their classes.

As part of the efforts, there have also been health and mobile consulate days, as well as delivery of Single Identity Documents, among others. In addition, the inhabitants of the delimited territories will soon receive a special card that will enable them to move freely and safely in their respective sectors.
