Written by Evelyn Alas

The Vice Minister of Finance (MH), Luis Sanchez, went to the Finance Commission to present the achievements of the administration in the fourth year of the period. Sanchez indicated that "in the 2023 Budget, the three pillars of human development were prioritized focusing on: security, health and education.

He also highlighted the efficient management of resources that allowed the increase in public investment to 5.7%. The MH Annual Report indicates, for example, that the investment for Social Development amounted to US$468.1 million.

Of this total, US$125.2 million went to health sector works. Another outstanding example is the case of the anti-inflationary measures promoted by the Central Government.

"To protect the pockets of salvadorans in the face of the inflationary crisis, we supported measures such as the suspension of COTRANS, the suspension of the FEFE tax, the fixing of maximum fuel prices and the general subsidy for liquefied gas", explained Vice Minister Sánchez.

For this reason, there was a combined effect, with the reduction of income due to the increase in spending on subsidies, for example. Thus, spending on subsidies was US$253.8 million in 2022, where there was an increase due to the increase in the subsidy for the purchase of liquefied petroleum gas.
