Written by Evelyn Alas

Junior Achievement El Salvador, with the support of the IDB Innovation Lab, IDB Lab, officially launched the “Mujer Digital”, program, which will train women for free in both digital skills and life skills, with the purpose of reducing the digital and labor gap of women in the digital economy.

Mujer Digital is a regional program co-created by Junior Achievement Americas and IDB Lab, which will run simultaneously in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, Mexico and Dominican Republic, which aims to provide opportunities to young women in vulnerable situations in order to improve their quality of life.

Participants will have the opportunity to acquire digital skills in Introduction to Programming, Web Development, Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, and the possibility of becoming certified in these areas. The program will also train women in life skills and support them in their transition to employment.

"Women continue to be underrepresented in the use of digital solutions, digital education and professional careers, despite extensive efforts in El Salvador and Latin America to promote their participation in these areas. In order to close the digital gender gap in the country, IDB Lab collaborates with partners such as Junior Achievement, through projects such as Mujer Digital, to identify and expand effective solutions that contribute to their preparation for the jobs of the future", said Margarita Libby IDB Group Representative in El Salvador.

In El Salvador, the program will benefit 800 women between 17 and 30 years old, with a high school education and who do not have a stable formal job. It also seeks to include women belonging to minority groups such as migrants, victims of displacement, or belonging to indigenous communities.

"In Junior Achievement we are committed to reducing the digital and labor gap for women in El Salvador, providing opportunities for women in El Salvador, especially those who need it most so they can develop in the digital economy. To this end, we will work with important technological and financial partners, private enterprise, international cooperation allies such as the Canadian Embassy through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives and other civil society allies that make our mission possible", said Ricardo Monterroza, executive director of Junior Achievement El Salvador.

Mujer Digital also has the support of strategic partners such as Caterpillar Foundation, the Banco Centroamericano de Integración Económica (CABEI) and technology partners such as Cisco Networking Academy, IBM and AWS.
