In order to guarantee efficient and safe road connectivity and mobility throughout the country's highway network, since last year El Salvador has had a US$245.8 million loan ratified with the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and the Republic of Korea to finance the construction of a viaduct and expansion of the Los Chorros highway (CA01W).

With this loan, the Central Government will improve mobility conditions for the 3.9 million drivers who travel along the Los Chorros section every day, and indirectly for all salvadorans, in addition to advancing the economic stimulus to sustain the growth rate achieved in 2021.

The approved loan is broken down as follows: US$165,324,129 is fund from CABEI and US$80,500,000.00 granted by the Republic of Korea, mendicant agreement signed between El Salvador and CABEI. The first amount will have a term of up to 20 years, including a five-year grace period, and the second amount will have a term of 30 years, including a 10-year grace period.

The Minister of Finance, Alejandro Zelaya, together with the Minister of Public Works, Romeo Rodríguez, CABEI Director, Luis Rodríguez, and CABEI Country Chief, Raúl Castaneda, yesterday invited national and international companies to participate in this mega road infrastructure project that will benefit thousands of salvadorans, mainly in the western part of the country.

This project is part of the economic development strategy and will stimulate private investment, exports and better access to production areas, generating thousands of direct and indirect jobs, in addition to settling historical debts in terms of road reconstruction.
