Written by Evelyn Alas

The Central Government began to execute a total of US$1.51 billion for this first set of Economic Impulse initiatives. Within this package, US$480 million will be invested in the Dirección de Obras Municipales (DOM).

The DOM is a body that allows the efficient use of resources, while decentralizing works, prioritizing the hiring of local workers and companies operating in the area.

According to the DOM's plan, in the course of the following months they will proceed with 786 projects, that is, an average of three per municipality. Now, the one that is in a more advanced stage is the National Road Repair Plan, which covers from Metapán to Pasaquina with its different phases, with an investment of more than US$100 million.

In addition, the authorities of the Directorate announced that they will soon begin with the remodeling of the Centro Escolar Estado de Israel (Nahuizalco, Sonsonate). The work will benefit 1,400 students.

This remodeling will be assigned through a competitive bidding process. Those who win the contract will be in charge of the classrooms, storage rooms, bathrooms, kitchen, accesses, cafeteria, courts and orchards. The goal is to complete it in an estimated seven months.

The President of the DOM, Claudia de Guevara, has referred on previous occasions to the importance of using resources with transparency and preventing harmful practices and assures that within the DOM they have an anti-bribery policy and will not allow any type of corruption.
