Mandatory invoicing in salvadoran businesses

Written by Denis Muñoz

The Ministry of Finance through the Dirección General de Impuestos Internos (DGII), informs that businesses are obliged to provide invoices to their customers for goods and services provided. The purpose of this measure is to reduce the tax evasion rate.

The DGII carried out a tax census in the Port of La Libertad, with the purpose of verifying that the taxpayers registered in the Value Added Tax (VAT) comply with the tax regulations in force.

During the work day, the DGII auditors verified the obligations that the businesses have to comply with, such as the VAT registration number and the data of the cash register machine (if it has one). They also reviewed the legal documentation in use and other documents necessary for the development of commercial activities.

With this type of verifications carried out by the Ministry of Finance, businesses are forced to comply with the delivery of invoices to customers for goods and services purchased.

These measures will also identify taxpayers who are not yet registered in the VAT registry, while at the same time providing them with a space for orientation and information so that they can learn the requirements they must fulfill to comply with their tax obligations.

These tax controls are carried out in all economic sectors of the country to encourage timely and accurate payment by taxpayers.
