Written by Miguel Crespin

The general director of Customs, Benjamín Mayorga has spoken of an interview, what will be done to facilitate trade and expedite the passage of merchandise through border points in El Salvador.

The official stated that US$40 million will be earmarked for investments in various border posts, including one specifically geared towards tourism and two others for trade. These posts include Las Chinamas, San Cristóbal and La Hachadura.

According to Mayorga, the Las Chinamas customs office plays a fundamental role in the area of tourism, since it channels the entire tourist flow between El Salvador and Guatemala, and vice versa. This border thus becomes a strategic point that facilitates and regulates the transit of visitors between both countries, while San Cristóbal and La Hachadura are commercial.

The official said that more than US$15 million will be invested in San Cristóbal customs and approximately US$19 million in La Hachadura, amounts that will be focused not only on improving infrastructure, but also on the acquisition of technological equipment to facilitate the transit of goods.
