Written by Dinero Staff

As part of the Horizonte program, an alliance between renewable energy producer Neoen and FUSAL, the construction of a Basic Health Unit was delivered to the Ministerio de Salud, which will benefit 2,030 inhabitants of eight communities adjacent to El Sitio, Puerto El Triunfo, Usulután.

Neoen's total investment in the design, supervision and construction is more than US$325,000, in response to the need to locate a new health unit in the community in a building of its own and adequate to serve the population of the area. The Ministerio de Salud (MINSAL) is the owner of the land where the facility was built, as well as the one in charge of the administration and operation of the health center.

The event was attended by representatives of MINSAL, Neoen, FUSAL, members of the Mayor's Office of Puerto El Triunfo, members of ADESCO El Sitio, construction and supervision personnel, as well as residents who will benefit from the work.

The construction of the Health Unit responds to the objective of the health pillar of the Horizonte Program, which seeks to improve access to health services in the eight communities of Jiquilisco, Puerto El Triunfo and Ozatlán in which the program intervenes.

The Health Unit will provide the population with infant, maternal and elderly care, control and survey consultations for chronic diseases, care and relief for infectious diseases, maintenance of local vaccination schedules, water quality controls for human consumption in the communities, among others. In addition, it becomes a place of community reference to strengthen the development of social spaces. FUSAL and Neoen jointly carried out the design and construction of the main module and the exterior works of the Health Unit.

According to Paolo Cartagena, general manager of Neoen El Salvador, Neoen is committed to supporting the social progress of the communities surrounding its Capella Solar plant, offering long-term solutions to address their fundamental needs in a sustainable manner.

"We are pleased that our contribution is based on a technical diagnosis that has allowed us to design a work plan consistent with the reality of the needs. As part of our social responsibility, Neoen seeks to generate long-term social benefits for the population", said Cartagena. "We are excited to work with FUSAL to carry forward our initiatives and generate a positive impact in the communities neighboring our Capella Solar project", concluded Cartagena.

Horizonte is Neoen's corporate social responsibility program at its Capella Solar photovoltaic plant, which has a projected investment of $10 million over 20 years. Its scope has been designed under a strategic approach, responding to the fundamental needs of the communities that were identified using the Social Progress Index (IPS) as a diagnosis. Since 2019, FUSAL has been executing the Neoen Horizonte Program, aimed at improving the social welfare of eight communities in the municipalities of Jiquilisco, Puerto El Triunfo and Ozatlán, located in Usulután.

"FUSAL has more than 37 years of experience in the design and implementation of social programs that achieve a measurable and significant impact on the most vulnerable populations. This new Health Unit project will contribute to improve access to health care and well-being for hundreds of families in the communities we currently serve with the Horizonte Program. Neoen's support combined with the joint work of FUSAL, the community, the municipality and MINSAL makes initiatives like these possible for local development", said Karla Segovia, executive director of FUSAL.
