Written by Evelyn Alas

Recently, AES El Salvador together with the Fundación Empresarial para la Acción Social (FUNDEMAS) held the workshops "AES Mujer - EMPRETEC" and "Mujeres en Acción" to provide entrepreneurial skills to 44 salvadoran women.

Both initiatives are part of the corporate social responsibility program of AES: AES Mujer, which supports equality and the economic inclusion of women through quality technical training.

AES Mujer - EMPRETEC for the first time in the east of the country

For the first time, the AES Mujer - EMPRETEC program was developed in the eastern part of the country, graduating 25 women, who will be able to replicate the knowledge learned and strengthen their entrepreneurial spirit.

The workshop mentorships reached El Divisadero, a small municipality in the Department of Morazán, where Kenny Blanco, one of the graduated participants, has her typical food stand.

"I am applying what I learned. My corn derivatives business was in disarray because I didn't know how to set goals. With this training I got the information I needed to make my business prosper and expand", said Kenny.

EMPRETEC is a technical training program designed by the United Nations. For the past 11 years, through this workshop, AES and FUNDEMAS have been providing participants with knowledge and tools to help them start their own business or strengthen the one they already have.

Women in Action: a new commitment to equality and inclusion

AES El Salvador, with the support of FUNDEMAS and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), carried out the first edition of the workshop Women in Action, aimed at 19 women electricians of the fourth category in the central and western part of the country.

The objective of the program is to promote inclusion, leadership, entrepreneurial power and ingenuity of the electrical technicians, so that, through their knowledge in the electrical field, they can work in the sector or start their own business.

To achieve this, the course addressed in a practical and theoretical way the importance of planning and defining entrepreneurial strategies, organizing time and improving negotiation and persuasion skills.

The Mujeres en Acción workshop complements the training that the beneficiaries have as electricians, so that they will be able to continue breaking gender gaps in a labor field where the majority are men.
