IICA seeks to strengthen the coffee value chain in Latin American countries

The Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira, Colombia, the UNESCO Chairs and the Instituto Interamericano de Cooperación para la Agricultura (IICA) will jointly offer an International Diploma in Bioeconomy Applied to the Coffee Value Chain, in virtual mode, whose registration can be done online until august 5, 2023.

The course is aimed at strengthening knowledge on the possibilities offered by the bioeconomy for the sustainable use of biomass in the coffee value chain and the transformation of biological resources into new bioproducts and bioservices.

The bioeconomy makes use of the new frontiers of science, technology and knowledge to improve the economic, social and environmental sustainability of coffee growing and other productive activities in the rural territories of Latin America and the Caribbean.

The course is aimed at producers, entrepreneurs, family farmers and students linked to the coffee value chain in Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil who are interested in exploring opportunities for diversifying production and generating new businesses by taking advantage of the bioeconomy.

The diploma course will be taught virtually from august 17 to november 2, 2023 (90 hours) under a self-learning methodology, which encourages autonomy and the exchange of knowledge among people.

In this first edition, 100% scholarships will be granted to participants. Those interested can apply at the following link.

To participate, participants must have a secondary education certificate, access to a computer, Internet connection, fluency in Spanish and be available to attend for four hours on thursdays of each week. 

Those who take the diploma course will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the coffee chain, analyzing its challenges and opportunities; they will also be able to apply tools for the design and implementation of new bio-businesses and develop skills to influence the replication and complementary training of other producers, technicians or entrepreneurs linked to their organization or family business.

All participants who pass the course with a minimum grade of 70 will receive a certificate of completion issued by the Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira and IICA.
