This plan seeks the implementation and operation of the Multimodal Railway between El Salvador and Costa Rica that will provide a daily service through a ship with capacity to mobilize 80 to 100 trailers and/or cargo trucks, in a first stage. In a second stage, the project contemplates the mobilization of cargo and passengers.
"Through this initiative we are aiming to facilitate trade and be more competitive at the international level, improving the movement times of goods and accelerating regional exchanges", said the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Adriana Mira.
The Costa Rican Vice Minister of Bilateral Affairs and International Cooperation, Lydia Peralta, also participated in the event, highlighting the importance of this alternative route and its contribution to the development of the maritime transport and trade industry in the region.
With the entry into service of this maritime transport, benefits are expected to include: transporting cargo in a safer way, avoiding traffic accidents and theft, saving time in land border procedures, reducing damage to goods, and contributing to a lower environmental impact caused by the emission of gases from cargo trucks or trailers.
