According to ACAFESAL, El Salvador exported 617,229 quintals of coffee last year, leaving the sector with a profit of over US$108 million, this figure represents an increase of 2% compared to 2020, when 12,400 quintals of coffee were exported.
The president of ACAFESAL, Omar Flores, said that the equivalent of 79% of what was produced in the year has been exported and the product was also exported as quality coffee or differentiated coffee.
Flores also said that the 2021 harvest generated 38,937 direct jobs on the farms and also invited coffee growers to reach their goal of reaching one million quintals of coffee.
By 2022, the association expects that export earnings will improve, as a result of the increase in international coffee prices.
The leader of the association pointed out that the debt in coffee growing is the most critical situation that coffee growers have, due to overdue loans or in arrears, many of them are being seized.
The composition of the debt as of november 30, 2021 is 260 million 123 thousand 534 and they call on the executive to facilitate the way to solve it.
