Written by Evelyn Alas

The Defensoría del Consumidor conducted inspections in supermarkets in the Metropolitan Area of San Salvador, as part of the Christmas 2021 Plan, promoted by the National Civil Protection System, to protect the rights and interests of consumers during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

The inspections in supermarkets are aimed at protecting the rights of consumers in relation to promotions and offers, prices on display, expiration dates, labeling in Spanish and misleading or false advertising, among other provisions of the Consumer Protection Law.

The president of the Defensoría del Consumidor, Ricardo Salazar, who has led the operations, emphasized that the verification includes the scales in supermarkets to guarantee that consumers receive the right amount of product, according to the weight they pay, as well as to prevent damages to the pocket of the population and to watch that the suppliers comply with the technical weighing norms at national level.

Salazar has been emphatic that the Defensoria del Consumidor will act firmly in case of detecting abuses or practices that injure or violate the rights of consumers during their purchases, at the same time he made available to the population the telephone number 910 and WhatsApp to contact the Defensoria.
