Legislative Assembly approves budget incorporation to combat pandemic and create spaces for coexistence

Through the reform to the Budget Law 2021, the deputies of the new Assembly reiterated their commitment with the young people who live in forgotten communities, since the incorporated funds will be invested in the creation of spaces for healthy recreation and to fight the pandemic.

During the plenary session, the plenary of the Legislative Body endorsed the amendment to the 2021 Budget Law for the Fondo de Inversión Social para el Desarrollo Local (FISDL) for an amount of US$1,886,997 million, from a loan signed with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

Through this reform to the 2021 Budget Law, the deputies guarantee the commitment with young people living in forgotten communities, since the incorporated funds will be invested in the creation of spaces for healthy recreation.

The money will be used to finance four infrastructure works in the Instituto Municipal de Deporte in Apopa, in the San Antonio neighborhood in Soyapango, as well as in the Complejo Deportivo San Miguel, phase I, and in the Estadio Jiboa, phase III, in San Vicente.

In addition, the legislators also approved, with 79 votes, to authorize the Ministry of Finance to incorporate US$6,643,275 million to the FISDL budget.

The money comes from the contract and non-refundable financial contribution signed with the German agency Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW).

Part of the funds will be destined to the Ministry of Health which will have US$30 million to continue fighting the pandemic as a result of Covid-19, after the deputies of the Legislative Assembly approved with 80 votes, the favorable opinion issued by the Treasury Commission to endorse the budgetary incorporation.

The funds come from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and with them the Executive Branch will be able to give continuity to the Covid-19 Vaccination Plan.

Safety supplies will also be purchased for the health personnel that are part of the Equipos de Respuesta Rápida; 40 ambulances will be acquired and PCR tests will be obtained to detect the virus, in addition, it will serve to acquire mobile X-ray equipment and to improve the infrastructure of the hospital network.

"The program to contain and control Covid-19 has been successful in all aspects. I would call it the defense to life program. I feel proud that our Government has implemented this program just in time", said Amilcar Ayala, deputy for the Nuevas Ideas party.
