The delegation is headed by the former Vice President and Panamanian Foreign Minister, Isabel de Saint Malo, and has among its members the OAS Secretary for the Strengthening of Democracy, Francisco Guerrero; the Director of the Department of Electoral Cooperation and Observation of said organization, Gerardo de Icaza; as well as its representative in our country, Juan Carlos Roncal. The deputy chief of mission is Gerardo Sánchez.
For this occasion, the OAS-EOM will deploy 95 observers of 20 nationalities in our territory, who will monitor various aspects of the development of the day such as the use of technology, electoral environment, among others.
Additionally, this Mission will monitor the process that will take place in some of the voting centers set up abroad so that the diaspora can also participate in this historic moment, these being those located in the United States, Guatemala, Mexico and Spain.
As part of its work in the country, this delegation will also hold meetings with the candidates of the different parties that aspire to be elected by the salvadoran population.
Based on these inputs, the group of observers will present a preliminary report by the middle of next week, in which the voices of all the actors of this democratic process will be included, as well as the details of the election day itself.
The Chancellor of the Republic expressed her gratitude for this accompaniment and reaffirmed El Salvador's interest in receiving missions such as this one in the country to witness the transparency of the process, which contributes to the strengthening of democracy.
