Between february and march, potato, cabbage and melon increased their prices

According to the daily report of food prices of the basic food basket issued by the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG) there has been an increase in the prices of several products of the basic food basket between february and march 2024.

 

 

The soloma potato in february cost US$60 and in march it reached US$64.38; while cabbage went from US$180 to US$200 in march.

Melon is another vegetable that increased its price for march 2024; the large melon went from costing US$75 to a maximum price of US$80 and the medium melon cost US$50 and in march US$60.

According to the latest report of the Banco Central de Reserva (BCR), the Oficina Nacional de Estadísticas y Censos (ONEC) released the latest bulletin of the Índice de Precios al Consumidor (IPC) for the month of february 2024.

The top five products that contributed the most to the monthly IPC increase are: Potatoes, air travel, special and regular gasoline, and diesel; these were offset by the negative behavior of some products, such as: tomato, fertilizer and compost, green chili, tortilla, and payment for mill service.
