Representatives of the Asociación de Productores de Caña de Azúcar de El Salvador (ASPROCAÑA), presented themselves to the Agricultural Commission of the Legislative Assembly to learn about the different needs of the sugar cane sector.

According to the deputies of the commission, the producers will support this sector to improve the conditions of the productive sector of ASPROCAÑA.

The representatives of ASPROCAÑA, request that the sector be included in the US$650 million trust fund of the Plan Rescate Agropecuario, since so far they have not been taken into account in this project.

The Commission was attended by the President of ASPROCAÑA, Joel Bonilla, the representative of the cooperativa de San Carlos, Salomón Zelada, the representative of the cooperativa de San Raymundo, David González, the advisor Carlos Rivera, and the representative of the cooperativa Santa Rita, José Pineda,

The representatives of ASPROCAÑA, propose that the director of the Consejo Salvadoreño de la Agroindustria Azucarera (CONSAA), comply with the Ley de Producción, Industrialización y Comercialización de la Agroindustria azucarera de El Salvador, so that producers and mills have the same opportunities for growth.

"There are six large sugar mills, but there are only four business groups that manage them... The business groups that control the large mills are in charge of deciding how much they will pay the producer, as well as how much the product will be sold to the public, said advisor Carlos Rivera.

"I thank you for inviting us, because we have never had the opportunity to tell you how you can help us... we need your help because we have problems with the high prices of the inputs necessary for the manufacture of chaparro", exclaimed Santos Leiva, representative of the Cooperativa San Francisco.
