Decrease in maquila exports and imports of oil derivatives by 2023

The most recent report of exports and imports of the Banco Central de Reserva, indicated a considerable reduction in maquila exports reaching a decrease of 23.1% and a downward variation in imports of oil derivatives by 6.9% at the end of 2023.

Maquila exports reached US$980.9 million, a significant reduction compared to 2022, which reached US$1,401.2 million, according to Banco Central de Reserva (BCR) statistics.

As for imports of petroleum derivatives, the reduction was seen in products such as gasoline, diesel and propane gas, reaching US$2,487.8 million, a reduction of 6.9% compared to the US$2,673 million recorded in 2022.

The report also noted reductions in exports of traditional products such as coffee and sugar, where the golden bean experienced a drop in exports of 16.84% and sugar 5.25%.
