Consultation for total energy coverage begins

Written by Leydin Sorto

Access to energy is one of the factors taken into account to stimulate development in the localities. To achieve this, it is first necessary to consult the beneficiary communities.

The Comisión Ejecutiva Hidroeléctrica del Río Lempa (CEL) informed that it has initiated the required process of rapprochement with the communities. "We started the meaningful consultation with communities in five departments of the country to listen to their opinions, as part of the Universal Energy Access Program", established CEL, during the last weekend of august 2023.

The program is executed by the Commission in conjunction with Distribuidora Eléctrica Cuscatlán (DEC, state-owned) and the Inter-American Development Bank, "with the purpose of electrifying 100% of households nationwide", he said.

The CEL technical team went to the La Tirana Community and Canton La Tirana, in the jurisdiction of Jiquilisco, Usulután. The technicians were also present in Caserío Los Palacios, Cantón El Corozo, in the jurisdiction of San Francisco Menéndez, Ahuachapán.

"We explained how the project will work and listened to the communities, who for many years were denied access to this important resource. Now, with the Central Government, it will be a reality", highlighted CEL.

The Government is focused on the good use of its own resources and external funds to improve the living conditions of the population.

The DEC explained that "The program will have an impact on salvadoran users, mainly located in rural areas, including homes and schools. We seek to implement three types of technologies" to guarantee stability.
