Valdéz mentioned that, as of august this year, El Salvador has received 2 million visitors, which translates to more than $2.1 billion in foreign exchange earnings.
"The majority (of tourists) come from the United States and Canada. In addition, we have had an increase of 50% of tourists from South America and Europe; many tell us that the three reasons why they come to the country are: security, Surf City and bitcoin", said the head of Tourism.
The official highlighted that the data evidences the positive impact that this initiative has generated in the country, by dynamizing tourism and turning the country into a reference in a model of financial freedom that is required for the future.
"Let's continue to raise awareness, educate and let the world know what we have in the country, taking advantage of the fact that we are being innovative and taking risks. The word I would associate with bitcoin is present and future", she said.
With this initiative, El Salvador became the first country in the world to legalize the use of bitcoin, as part of the strategic projects to give a new boost to the country's economic development.
This thursday, salvadoran government officials attended the celebration of the panel called "Two years later: Bitcoin Day in El Salvador", which was also attended by representatives of companies that have been key players in the adoption of cryptocurrency and the Asociación Bitcóin de El Salvador (Asobitcoin).
