ITU recognizes Fundación Carlos Slim and América Móvil for their technological innovation for health care

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) granted América Móvil the World Summit on the Information Society Award for the development and implementation, together with Fundación Carlos Slim, of two applications for monitoring, prevention, follow-up and care of the population during the Covid 19 pandemic.

The WSIS Award granted in the category of e-Health to the Monitor FCS application, recognizes that, through the application, it has been possible to care for and monitor the health of the employees of América Móvil, Grupo Carso, Fundación Carlos Slim and other companies, as well as their families.

Carlos Slim Helú received the award from ITU Secretary General, Houlin Zhao, during his participation as Co-Chair of the Broadband Commission of the Union, before the plenary of commissioners and the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, who are holding in Kigali the annual spring meeting of the organization, under the title "Driving inclusive digital transformation".

The Honorary and Life Chairman of América Móvil, highlighted that one of the priorities within the Group is the care for the health and well-being of its employees, which is why the Monitor FCS platform was developed, to which nearly 500 thousand people were registered, generating more than 50 million reports of symptoms that were analyzed to determine if any person was exposed to risks or if it was necessary to isolate possible contacts early and thus maintain safe work spaces, protecting each collaborator.

Mr. Slim Helú said that the platform, developed by Arturo Elias Slim, made it possible to avoid about 85 thousand contagions, as well as to implement efficient work protocols to substantially reduce risks, thanks to which the contagion rate among employees of América Móvil and other Grupo Carso companies was considerably lower than national and local averages.

"Monitor FCS is a good example of how the use of technology helps to improve people's health and care", concluded the Co-Chair of the ITU Broadband Commission.

In mid-March 2020, in response to the pandemic caused by COVID-19, América Móvil, in coordination with the Fundación Carlos Slim and Claro Shop, a Grupo Carso company, developed in less than two weeks the digital platform Monitor FCS, a mobile and web application that allows real-time and individual monitoring of the health status of employees and their families, facilitating a transparent, reliable and automated flow of information that is used for their benefit.

Through Monitor FCS, the health status of employees, family members and collaborators of América Móvil and Grupo Carso in Latin America, as well as the general public, has been monitored daily and in real time with the COVID-19MX application.

With the use of the application, it was possible to detect more than 21 thousand cases, carrying out immediate actions such as isolation, contact follow-up and adherence to the rest of the prevention and control measures in the COVID-Carso Protocol in the Group's companies, which helped to avoid, in addition to some 85 thousand infections, 7 thousand hospitalizations and nearly 3 thousand deaths.

The application has incorporated artificial intelligence models for the detection of probable cases of COVID-19, simplified processes for reporting health status, as well as integration with platforms that support the management of occupational health, such as MIDO, which allows the determination and monitoring of chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes and hypertension, and the app Mi Salud Integral, which supports the adoption of healthy habits.

As a fundamental part, the application complies with all privacy protocols and guarantees that individual information remains secure.

Simultaneously, through América Móvil and its subsidiaries Claro and Telcel, agreements were reached with health authorities in different Latin American countries to develop applications similar to Monitor FCS, such as COVID-19MX, in order to collaborate in the prevention, containment and care of the general population in the event of a health emergency. In this way, the authorities were able to better identify the chains of contagion.

The WSIS award granted by the ITU recognizes the contribution of América Móvil and Fundación Carlos Slim to develop mobile applications that bring health services closer to people, wherever they are, facilitating diagnosis, medical care and epidemiological surveillance.
