Plan ''Defiende tu aguinaldo'' seeks to ensure that salvadoran workers can receive their Christmas bonuses

Written by Evelyn Alas

The minister of Labor, Rolando Castro, accompanied by his team began the inspection plan ‘‘Defiende tu aguinaldo’’, as established by law, which will have 600 inspectors in the 14 departments of the country.

The official explained that through the service provided by the departmental headquarters or different communication channels, they have found many complaints that are trying to negotiate or renegotiate, within the law, the Christmas bonus.

Castro assured that the companies that are carrying out this type of practices are from the security and cleaning services sector. For this purpose, they are using their legal units. He also emphasized that the Christmas bonus is absolutely not negotiable with anyone; it is not interpretative within the framework of the law. This money is not an option to be given or not by an employer.

The Minister of Labor emphasized that those companies that do not comply with the law and violate the right of employees, will be sanctioned accordingly and added that there are several types of penalties, among them, fines defined by law that can range from minor to serious, elimination of incentives and filing an appeal with the Fiscalía General de la República.

Castro emphasized that 95% of the companies are complying with the law by delivering the Christmas bonus, and that they guarantee the rights of the collaborators above national and international standards, which has already been recognized as an institution.
