The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the International Labor Organization (ILO) released today a new joint report in which they point out that, in a context in which the economies of the region grew by 6.6% in 2021, the main labor indicators in the region also registered improvements, including growth in employment and the labor participation rate, and a decrease in the unemployment rate.

The economic growth recorded in 2021 was insufficient to recover the labor market in Latin America and the Caribbean, which two years after the onset of the crisis is experiencing high unemployment and the prospect of an increase in informality.

According to ILO Convention 144, El Salvador is obliged to establish spaces in which workers, employers and the government can dialogue on issues related to employment and workers' rights.
