Written by Denis Muñoz

El Salvador, according to the United Nations Agency for Tourism, reports a 40% increase in tourism, making it the fifth country with the highest tourism growth in 2023.

The countries that precede El Salvador in the ranking are: Turks and Caicos Islands, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Albania, making the nation the second country in the Americas in the list only after Turks and Caicos Islands in the Bahamas and the fifth worldwide.

The United Nations World Tourism Barometer periodically monitors short-term tourism trends to provide global tourism stakeholders with up-to-date analysis on international tourism.

The report cites that international tourism recovered 88% of pre-pandemic levels in 2023, supported by strong pent-up demand. After a strong rebound in 2023, international tourism is expected to fully recover to pre-pandemic levels by 2024.
