As part of the modernization of the Registro Nacional de Personas Naturales (RNPN) being carried out by the Central Government, salvadorans will be able to obtain their Documento Único de Identidad (DUI) digitally and carry it on their mobile device.

"This is a first, the institution is working to modernize, even more, the services. And possibly at the end of this year we will be launching what will be known as the digital identity and within this is what is known as the digital DUI", said Fernando Velazco, director of the Registro Nacional de las Personas Naturales.

"This digital DUI will be accessible to all citizens through an application, that is to say, the citizen will have his unique identity document in physical form, but he will also be able to have it in an electronic digital way in his smart device", said the official.

He emphasized that the salvadorans who will be able to opt for the digital DUI will initially be those who already have the new card launched in the middle of last year.

"We have a new design of the DUI, it is coated with the latest technology in this type of product. It is made under a laser technology, it is super durable and has a transparent window. It has around 30 security measures", the official assured.

He indicated that due to the extreme security of the renewed DUI, the RNPN has been awarded by High Security Printing for the best identification card in Latin America 2023.

The Central Government is constantly modernizing all its institutions in order to provide a timely and efficient service to the salvadoran population, and the RNPN is no exception.
