AJE positions itself in CA with sustainable strategy and super berries drink

Written by Evelyn Alas

After 35 years in the Latin American and Global beverage market, Grupo AJE, through its vision, positions itself as a company committed to the conservation of biodiversity in Central America.

To achieve this, this year the company will make a significant investment in its programs as part of the implementation of its global vision at the regional level.  These include specific projects, through alliances, for the protection of the five great forests of Central America: La Biósfera Maya (Guatemala), Indio Maíz (Nicaragua), La Moskitia (Nicaragua/Honduras), La Amistad (Costa Rica/Panama) and El Darien (Panama). As part of its support for biodiversity conservation, AJE's plan seeks to develop circular economies by partnering with the communities living in these areas.

A first agreement, for the protection of 61,000 hectares of forest in the Mayan Biosphere Reserve and the exploration of community development opportunities, was signed in Guatemala through the company's recent alliance with WCS (Willdlife Conservation Society).

Another important aspect of the company's new vision is environmental education, for which it is establishing alliances with the local governments where it has operations and providing support, through schools and associations, for the collection and collection of solid waste and the recycling of plastics. In Guatemala, it works, among other entities, with the Autoridad del Lago de Amtitlán (AMSA) in volunteer work and comprehensive plastic collection and reuse programs.

Recently, through its "Superfruits that conserve forests" program, AJE is launching a new category that it is already introducing in the region, called "AMAYU", which consists of superfruit juices that conserve forests through sustainable harvesting practices that empower communities in the Amazon of Peru, Colombia and Ecuador.

This category embodies AJE's global sustainability mission: "Leading a Natural Revolution". According to José Fernando Matheu, Head of Sustainability of the Grupo AJE CAM, "in each bottle of AMAYU we carry the message of a Natural Revolution, which consists of motivating the user to buy it because it is good for their health, good for biodiversity and good for the communities". AJE said that they see a promising future for this new category throughout the region and are confident in the positive impact that their sustainability strategy will have on the forests of Central America.
