Secure electricity supply is the EOR's mission in Central America

Written by Evelyn Alas

The Ente Operador Regional (EOR), states that its duty is to ensure that the operation and dispatch of energy in Central America is carried out efficiently, seeking to achieve adequate levels of safety, quality, and reliability for the economic and social development of the region, based on a framework of respect and protection of the environment.

The regional institutions have worked hard to provide a good electric energy service that does not affect the economy of the countries that make up the region. For this reason, it denies any accusation that discredits its efforts.

For more than 30 years, it has worked with a high degree of commitment and coordination, achieving a successful electrical integration process, being admired and recognized worldwide.

The regional organizations of the Mercado Eléctrico Regional (MER) were created by decision of the governments of the six Central American countries, namely: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama, through the Framework Treaty of the Central American Electricity Market and its Protocols, (hereinafter Framework Treaty). This was ratified by the respective Legislative Assemblies of each country.

In addition, it constantly trains its personnel in the strengthening of specialized technical skills, and also promotes training workshops for Operators in the region.

In order to contribute to the improvement of the infrastructure of the regional interconnection Power Grid and the performance of the Electric System, the EOR periodically conducts technical studies on operational safety, planning of Generation and Regional Transmission, among others.

In accordance with the principles of the Framework Treaty and Community Law, the EOR, as a regional institution within the framework of the Sistema de Integración Centroamericana (SICA), acts with equity, impartiality and transparency, making the general interest of the Central American community prevail over the particular interest of an entity or organization.

The EOR guarantees that it will always work to maintain an efficient operation and good functioning of the Regional Electricity Market; and will continue to comply with its mission of "Uniting the energy of the region, through the safe, economic and sustainable energy supply of the inhabitants of Central America".
