What measures should companies implement in the face of the new BA.2 omicron subvariant?

Written by Evelyn Alas

The pandemic is not over yet, the minister of Health, Francisco Alabí, said this morning in a press conference that due to the appearance of the new subvariant omicron BA.2, it could arrive to El Salvador in approximately three weeks.

He also said that the entire Integrated Health System is prepared to deal with a possible increase of positive cases. The minister informed that the characteristic of this variant of omicron is that it is more easily contagious.

What are the symptoms of Omicron BA.2?

Symptoms: sore or scratchy throat, loss of taste and smell, coughing, vomiting; diarrhea, difficulty breathing, headache, sore throat, muscle pain, runny nose, extreme fatigue and fever.

That is why Dinero.com.sv recommends companies to apply the following measures to prevent contagion in their collaborators.

1-Cleaning and disinfection more frequently

2-Temporary restriction of meetings or face-to-face activities

3-Mandatory use of masks and alcohol gel

4-Promotion of respiratory hygiene (cover mouth and nose when coughing).

5-Temperature taking prior to entry

6-Revision of working days or schedules

7-Delivery of gloves to workers

8-Implementation of physical barrier protections

9- Protocols for the management of personnel clothing

People who do not have at least 2 or 3 vaccinations should wear double surgical masks or a KN95 respirator in enclosed public places. In the case of those who already have all the necessary doses, they should wear a double surgical mask or a KN95 respirator in enclosed spaces; in areas of substantial transmission.

One of the preventive actions implemented by the Central Government is to make available to the entire population, the fourth dose of the anti-COVID-19 vaccine, to reinforce the protection of the health of salvadoran families.

In the last days, some European countries, such as Germany, Austria and United Kingdom, have started to register a new increase of Covid 19 cases.

According to European experts, two factors may be behind this increase: the spread of the BA.2 variant, a "first cousin" of the omicron, and the end of the main preventive policies, such as the use of masks in enclosed places.
