Huawei celebrated 10 years of its flagship Seeds for the Future program in Latin America and the Caribbean, through which it has offered more than 2,100 scholarships to young students so they can receive training in digital technologies.

The company first brought the program to Latin America in 2014, starting with Colombia and then expanding it to some 20 countries in the region.

"Digital talent is an essential part of the company's vision. We trust and value young talent, their creative thinking and innovation, in particular, to achieve that vision. As an employer and an important part of developing the digital talent pipeline, we are committed to grooming the young talent of the future", said Jeff Wang, president of Huawei's Public Affairs and Communications Department.

The company co-hosted the second LAC ICT Talent Summit in Bogota on monday and tuesday with partners such as UNESCO, the Government of Colombia, GIZ and EFE. The event brings together nearly 600 attendees, including education and industry leaders, ministers and senior government officials, as well as young students who are winners of various talent programs.

The two-day event with the theme "Deepening the development of digital talent in the Intelligent Era" focuses on topics such as challenges in digital talent development in the region, best practices, policy formulation and perspectives, and efforts to close gaps, such as gender and geographic. It also touches on the impact of the explosive growth of artificial intelligence and various digital technologies and applications.

On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of Seeds for the Future in Latin America and the Caribbean, the LAC Alumni Reunion was officially established at this event. The Reunion will regularly organize students to participate in a variety of online and offline activities and select Seeds for the Future for future global ambassadors.

In Bogota, 66 students from across the region participated in the 1st LAC Global Village Culture Fair. The young people were grouped by country, showcasing the most representative cultural content from their home countries and interacting with others to promote cultural exchanges.

Ernesto Briceño, Seeds for the Future Regional Ambassador for LAC 2022 encouraged more Latino talents to participate in the project, he said: "This time I met students from Brazil, Mexico and other countries. We talked a lot, learned more about different cultures and digital technology. It's definitely a life-changing journey".

On the evening of the 5th, three Seeds for the Future alumni from Brazil, Peru and Argentina won the title of Seeds for the Future 2023 Ambassador, through introduction, presentation and voting by other students and judges. In the coming year, they will be able to visit Huawei's headquarters and will have opportunities to participate in Huawei's regional and even global activities to promote the building of local talent ecosystems and boost digital technology education.
