This morning the minister of Finance, Alejandro Zelaya together with the Director of Customs, Samadhy Martinez arrived at the Fiscalía General de la República (FGR), to present four cases of evasion and smuggling.

Minister Zelaya assured that they presented before the FGR, four cases of evasion totaling more than US$11 million, two of the cases are: the anti-evasion plan with US$3.6 million and US$7.5 million that make the anti-smuggling plan.

"We are investigating in previous years , if now in 26 (operations) we add US$7.5 million, in the three or four previous years it could add much more", said minister Martinez.

Also, the official indicated that the third case is, a company dedicated to the sale and distribution of pharmaceutical products with approximately US$3.6 million of Income Tax (VAT) evasion, in 2018 and within this same case there is a company that makes undue withholding of taxes to its employees, without notifying the Ministerio de Hacienda (MH).

Likewise, the minister assured that the case led by the Dirección General de Aduanas (DGA), is an identity that simulated operations from Guatemala, performing other international trade operations.

The general director of Customs emphasized that this has been possible thanks to the intelligence team of the Directorate and with an international collaboration, to establish the traceability of foreign operations.

"Their line of business is the export of fruits, vegetables and various goods, however, the importer, in this case salvadoran, has usurped the NIT (Tax Identification Number) of a legally established company, which has nothing to do with the crime of combating smuggling of goods", detailed the Director of Customs Samadhy Martínez.

The official omitted to respond on the low sovereign rating that El Salvador received from Moody's Investor Services agency, which went from B3 to CAA1, in which he limited himself to mention the rating status with other rating agencies.
