The President of the Defensoría del Consumidor (DC), Ricardo Salazar, informed that to date they have carried out 150 verifications in high consumption stores, such as restaurants, hotels, convenience stores and supermarkets.
In these inspections, about 200 expired products have been found, which have been removed from the establishments to be destroyed, as indicated by the protocol of the DC.
These expired products have been found mainly in bakery, carbonated beverages, spices, sauces, and condiments.
The official said that these findings are "worrisome", since consumers do not have the expiration dates of food in sight; 40 % of these expired items were found in kitchens.
The head of the DC also mentioned that they remain attentive to complaints about suppliers of tourist packages.
Also, Salazar stated that the Defensoría del Consumidor staff will continue to make tours throughout the country to ensure that fresh and good quality food is delivered to the population.
He informed that they have approached their services through fixed points distributed in the main beaches, mountain destinations, towns, and commercial centers. So far in Plan Verano 2024, more than 1,200 consumers have been served at these locations.
