Fundación Edificando Vidas and Asociación Salvadoreña para la Prevención del Cáncer (ASAPRECAN) received this wednesday a donation from the Avon Promesa para Ganarle al Cáncer de Mama program, during a virtual meeting with the media.

Since 1996, Avon El Salvador has donated more than US$1.2 million to organizations working to beat breast cancer with initiatives focused on its four stages: awareness, research, treatment and reconstruction. The funds are obtained from the sale of products with a cause in Avon brochures.

"At Avon we believe in supporting NGOs and social causes, to help women's well-being and health. We are proud to accompany one more year these organizations that, like the company, are committed to the promise of beating breast cancer and continue transforming the lives of hundreds of salvadoran women", said Rosa Esther Perez, Country Manager of Avon El Salvador.

With the launch of the Avon Call for Proposals in July 2021, Avon invited institutions to present their projects focused on areas of impact such as: Promotion of research related to breast cancer; Empowerment of women to make decisions focused on the timely detection of breast cancer; Strengthening of care systems in health centers that serve patients with breast cancer, and Support for the comprehensive care of women diagnosed with breast cancer.

After a group of professional experts in the field of breast cancer from outside Avon evaluated each project received, Fundación Edificando Vidas was selected to receive a donation of US$45,000 to carry out the project: "Program for timely access to early detection tests for breast cancer phase II".

ASAPRECAN was also awarded US$32,500.00 to implement the project "Community Breast Cancer Prevention El Salvador year four".

Rosa Esther Perez, Country Manager of Avon El Salvador was in charge of making the official presentation to Marcella Carrillo, executive director of Fundación Edificando Vidas and Dr. Lisseth Ruiz de Campos, president of ASAPRECAN.

"We want to thank Avon for believing that early diagnosis saves lives and for bringing this help closer to the communities. In three years of support we have reached more than a thousand women without resources, who have had the opportunity to undergo imaging studies free of charge. Thank you Avon for trusting in our work for another year", said Marcella Carrillo.

Dr. Lisseth Ruiz de Campos said: "Thanks to the support of the Promesa Avon, in the last three years we have been able to provide mammograms and breast ultrasounds to 2,274 women in rural areas, in order to detect the disease early. In addition, 137 women with breast cancer have benefited from external breast prostheses and their respective bras, as well as hormonal therapies for breast cancer".
