MITUR reports that lodging capacity has been exceeded

Written by Karla Gutiérrez

During a television interview, the minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez, indicated that the lodging capacity of the estimated 3,500 companies in different parts of the country has been surpassed, especially in the Surf City area which is one of the most demanded tourist routes by nationals and foreigners.

The minister said that an estimated 6,000 rooms are required to supply the demand for lodging in the national territory. The great affluence of visitors that El Salvador receives must be satisfied with a greater tourist offer.

The minister of Tourism reiterated that she is implementing strategies to encourage entrepreneurs to invest in the hotel industry, in order to meet the need for accommodation, generate jobs and boost the economy.

The Ministry of Tourism estimates that the country will receive close to 126,000 international visitors, which represents an increase of 15% over 2023, when 102,055 visitors arrived in the country. The main destinations of origin will be: United States, Guatemala, and Honduras.

The arrival of foreigners during this year's Easter Week will leave the country with aneconomic flow of US$110 million in foreign exchange, surpassing the US$95 million received in 2023.

Another important fact is that MITUR expects to inaugurate Surf City 2, with a loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), for which it has already begun with the bids and studies of the area.
