This ban will not affect the prices of other marine products such as fish, crabs, lobsters, shells, octopus, among others.
According to CENDEPESCA, the period of suspension of extraction responds to the fact that it is the time of greatest reproduction and growth of marine shrimp and the ecosystems where they live, hence the provision ensures the recovery and sustainability of the species, because in recent years there has been a decline in the production of marine shrimp.
The national closed season was determined by consensus with the Scientific Advisory Committee for Fisheries and Aquaculture and the National Council for Fisheries and Aquaculture.
The prohibition of the extraction of the resource does not restrict the commercialization or consumption, if the marine shrimp comes from reserves maintained by the businesses or restaurants, and that they have acquired them before the establishment of the fishing management measure.
Supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, wholesalers, importers, and exporters of fishery products must submit the Inventory Control Form to CENDEPESCA no later than may 5, thus ensuring compliance with the regulations and avoiding seizures due to lack of proper documentation.
Monitoring, control, and surveillance will be carried out by an inter-institutional committee, in addition to the MAG, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, the Ministry of National Defense and the National Navy, the Ministry of Finance, the General Directorate of Customs, the Policía Nacional Civil, the Fiscalía General de la República and the Defensoría del Consumidor. Any illegal extraction and trade of sea shrimp may be reported to any of the CENDEPESCA offices nationwide.
