From april 15 to july 14, 2024, there will be a 23% increase in electricity rates for industry, commerce and those users who consume more than 300 kW/hour.

The Dirección General de Energía, Hidrocarburos y Minas (DGEHM) reported that 93% of users nationwide will not experience a change in their electricity rates during this period, thus benefiting numerous households in El Salvador.

Users who during the january to march quarter had an average monthly consumption below 300 kW/h will not pay a cent more in the price of their electricity bill, that is, salvadorans who have subsidies, small businesses, entrepreneurs, and consumers whose consumption is not very high.

However, 7% of consumers who consume more than 300 kW/h will experience a 23% increase in their electricity bill, industry, commerce and large consumers.

The factors that influenced this variation are meteorological influence of the "El Niño" phenomenon during 2023, which impacted the generation of hydroelectric energy, the increase in the price of hydrocarbons and geopolitical conflicts in the region and worldwide, affecting the cost of living of salvadorans, including the price of energy, which is one of the main inputs of the population.

All energy distribution companies must comply with this provision approved by the deputies of the Legislative Assembly for the benefit of most salvadorans, favoring 1.9 million users of the national electricity network.

It is important to highlight that the Government of President Nayib Bukele, will continue granting the electricity subsidy to families that consume up to 105 kWh per month, to continue alleviating the pocket of salvadorans.
