Housing Ministry seeks new loan from IDB

Written by Karla Gutiérrez

The minister of Housing, Michelle Sol, met with representatives of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to discuss aspects related to technical cooperation that will later allow the financing of housing programs at national level, which will be part of the thousands of projects that have been carried out in the sector during almost five years of administration.

The IDB has granted financing of US$50 million for social interest loans, which are about to be completed, which is why the state portfolio is looking for another similar loan to continue strengthening the various programs it has, the Fondo Social para la Vivienda, which will allow more families to have a loan to buy their own home.

During the meeting, minister Sol and IDB representatives discussed different projects in which municipalities are key players in the development and reduction of the housing deficit.

In addition, they will work on a value chain study that will be an instrument to measure and have figures on how housing impacts other aspects of life.

During the meeting, the Minister highlighted that US$905 million have been invested in loans, housing construction, deeds and resettlement, benefiting more than 97,000 families.

She added that the government has focused on providing adequate housing to change the quality of life of families, improve the family economy, health and other fundamental aspects.
