The impacts of the current inflationary scenario in the region

Central American Business Intelligence, held today a webinar for the media on the impacts of the current inflationary scenario in the Central American and Caribbean region, explaining how it affects the economy of each country for 2022.

According to economist Paulo De Leon, in the previous weeks there was a third price break, increasing commodities, in prices never seen before, visualizing at the end of january an increase of 60% in the global index of raw materials, being the highest prices in history, even higher than the crisis of 2008, not only for some countries, this impact is being generated worldwide.

According to the director of CABI, it has begun to visualize how inflation is already affecting the consumer from food and beverages, construction materials and some mass consumption products such as flour, wheat, oils and mentions, as well as the logistics chain continues to detect a high pressure and record highs.

He also emphasizes that "inflation affects all of us, as it reduces the purchasing power of all inhabitants for the basic food basket, especially for the Central American region".

"Inflation is reaching all countries and especially consumers. Inflation is happening for three clear reasons: The massive and historic injection of money, the logistics crisis and the European Energy Crisis, he stressed that inflation will not stop in the short term, at an economic cost that is to grow less the economy of each country", concluded De Leon.
