These are the cell phones that will no longer be able to use YouTube, Gmail and other apps

Google announced that cell phones with Android 2.3.7 operating system or lower will not be able to access the Play Store from September 27th. This means that people with these devices will not be able to access Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps and other apps for everyday use.

Google support staff explained that, from then on, the system will show user or password errors to people who want to log in to their Play Store account. They added that the most advisable thing to do is to update the version of the devices, in case the cell phone allows it.

Devices with version 2.3.7 were launched in september 2011, which is why Google considers them as old systems. In addition, Android is on its way to version 12 and, according to the technology portal Xataka, only 0.2% of active cell phones have versions lower than 4.0.

How do I know the operating system of my cell phone?

If you do not know what year the cell phone you are currently using was released, you can check the version of your Android as follows:

1. Enter "Settings" (it is usually represented with a gear icon).

2. Once inside, go to the "System" or "Device Information" section, the name may vary depending on the model.

3. Look for "System Update", the system version will appear there. In this section you can update the version if you need to

In case the device you are using has a version lower than 2.3.7 and it is not possible to update it, you can access most applications from the internet browser. Outside of Google, all other apps should continue to function normally.
