Microsoft introduces Windows 365: the beginning of a new category of computing

Written by Alondra Gutiérrez

Windows 365 will deliver a complete and personalized PC experience from the cloud to any device, providing users and organizations with more power, simplicity and security for hybrid work.

Microsoft Corp. on wednesday announced Windows 365, a cloud service that introduces a new way for businesses of all sizes to experience Windows 10 or Windows 11 (when available). Windows 365 brings the operating system to Microsoft's cloud, streaming the complete Windows experience -applications, data and settings -to both personal and corporate devices.

Secure by design and developed with Zero Trust principles, Windows 365 secures and stores information in the cloud, not on the device, delivering a safe and productive experience for users from interns and contractors to software developers and industrial designers. It also creates a new category of hybrid personal computing called PC in the cloud, which uses both the power of the cloud and the capabilities of the device to deliver a complete, personalized experience.

The announcement represents a groundbreaking breakthrough at a time when companies around the world are looking for the best way to facilitate hybrid work models in which employees are both onsite and distributed around the world.

"Thanks to Windows 365, we are creating a new category: PCs in the cloud", said Satya Nadella, president and CEO of Microsoft ".

Windows 365 helps businesses solve the challenges they have been facing since long before the pandemic. Users expect greater flexibility and more options to work from different locations, while still ensuring the security of company data.

They will be able to access and leave computers without the logistical challenges of issuing new hardware or securing personal devices, allowing businesses to adapt to peak periods more efficiently and securely. In addition, businesses will be able to easily ensure that their more specialized staff in creative, analytical, engineering or scientific roles have increased computing power and secure access to the key applications they need.

Versatile, simple and secure: the transformative impact of Windows 365

By harnessing the power of the Windows operating system and the strength of the cloud, Windows 365 delivers greater peace of mind in three key ways:

  • Powerful: With instant booting of your personal PC to the cloud, users will be able to stream all their applications, tools, data and settings from the cloud across any device. Windows 365 provides the complete PC experience in the cloud. The cloud also offers versatility in terms of processing power and storage, allowing IT departments to scale capacity up or down as needed. With a choice of Windows 10 or Windows 11 (once it becomes widely available in late 2021), businesses will be able to choose the cloud PC that suits them best on a monthly per-user price.
  • Simple: Users can log in and pick up where they left off on all devices, making it a simple and familiar Windows experience delivered by the cloud. For IT, Windows 365 also simplifies deployment, updates and management and, unlike other solutions, does not require any virtualization expertise.

Windows 365 will be generally available to businesses of all sizes from august 2, 2021. More information can be found at https://Microsoft.com/Windows-365
