Caja Rural begins operations in Juayúa, Sonsonate

Written by Evelyn Alas

Today, president José Eduardo Aguilar, inaugurates the Caja Rural in Juayúa, Department of Sonsonate, which will bring our products and services to the most vulnerable populations in the area.

Juayúa, is a town that is sustained by the practice of trade based on agriculture, commerce and tourism. It is located in the Sierra Apaneca-Ilamatepec, the region with the highest coffee production in the country. It has an area of 103.06 km², distributed in 10 cantons and 35 hamlets.

The opening of this BFA service point will allow more than 12 thousand people from all these areas to have access to innovative financial services and avoid having to travel to a service center to carry out financial transactions, including the withdrawal of remittances, which in 2021 alone Juayúa received around $15.2 million in remittances from family members abroad.

The BFA is convinced that financial inclusion is key to reducing poverty and boosting prosperity in rural areas; having access to useful and affordable financial products that meet the needs of users is key to improving their quality of life.

The Cajas Rurales are now part of the network of physical channels through which the Bank seeks to bring its financial and non-financial services closer to municipalities, cantons and hamlets in the country with difficulties of accessibility to traditional banking and which are characterized by a high percentage of rural population with high levels of poverty.

  • Among the operations that can be carried out in our rural savings banks are:
  • Deposits and withdrawals in savings and checking accounts
  • Payment of BFA Loans
  • Payment of Basic Services and miscellaneous collectors
  • Payments (FISDL among other alliances)
  • Granting of Credits
  • Payment of Checks
  • Payment of family remittances
  • Association of Electronic Channels (BFA en línea, BFA Móvil, TeleBFA, ATM´s BFA)
  • Opening of savings and checking accounts and certificates of deposit

In addition, through the agreement signed with FISDL, monetary transfers will be made to beneficiaries of the social programs promoted by the government of President Nayib Bukele; both institutions coordinate efforts to improve the quality of life of vulnerable sectors of the country and access to financial products, developing the conditions to design and implement mechanisms to deliver the monetary transfers of the programs, through their presence in the municipalities in need.

Banco de Fomento Agropecuario is growing to reach more Salvadorans throughout the national territory. In the first 6 months of 2022, through our Cajas Rurales, more than 18 thousand financial operations were carried out for an amount of $ 6 million dollars, which reflects a favorable response from the beneficiary populations.

With this expansion strategy, BFA reaffirms its commitment to provide comprehensive and sustainable financial solutions, with emphasis on the rural sector, contributing to financial inclusion, business growth and food sovereignty, positioning its customers at the center of everything that is done within BFA, focused on strengthening their relationship, to be their first and best choice of Bank.
