Secretaría de la Comunidad Andina and Huawei Technologies sign cooperation agreement

Secretaría General de la Comunidad Andina and Huawei Technologies signed an institutional cooperation agreement that will promote joint collaboration through the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

The secretary general of the CAN, Jorge Hernando Pedraza, and the general manager of Huawei Colombia, Cheng Peng, signed the agreement at a ceremony held at the headquarters of the multinational in the city of Bogota, where Huawei's global vice president, Mark Xueman was present.

Jorge Hernando Pedraza emphasized that the agreement will promote knowledge transfer in technologies, strengthening the implementation of the Andean Digital Agenda, a priority for the organization, on which it has been working in a cross-cutting manner.

"This agreement considers fundamental issues such as connectivity, the cloud, artificial intelligence, big data, Internet of things and others such as clean energy, training of digital talent, technological innovation, cybersecurity and support to the CAN in gender equity policies", he emphasized.

Jorge Hernando Pedraza affirmed that the General Secretariat will support the coordination of programs and training that contribute to raise the level of knowledge in information and communications technologies of the CAN member countries, strengthening their capacities and making them more competitive in the face of new challenges and the post-pandemic stage.

The Andean Community is an international organization with various bodies and institutions that make up the Sistema Andino de Integración (SAI), whose objective is to achieve integral, balanced and autonomous development through Andean integration, with a projection towards South American and Latin American integration.

It is made up of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru as member countries; Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay are associate members and Spain and Morocco are observer countries.
