Syngenta presents the #PROagricultor platform in El Salvador

Written by Evelyn Alas

Committed to generating a positive change in the way food is produced, Syngenta launches #PROagricultor, a free virtual education platform open to the public, focused on training in regenerative agriculture.

#PROagricultor is a tool that seeks to train farmers, agribusiness, students and agricultural technicians, by teaching best practices enabled by cutting-edge technology to develop resilient and thriving food systems that ensure the welfare of farmers, contributing to soil restoration, biodiversity conservation, water and slowing climate change.

The platform has 5 modules that address the topics of:

  • Good use and responsible handling of crop protection products
  • Biodiversity on my farm
  • Agricultural standards and certifiers
  • Soil health
  • And the fifth module on Integrated Pest Management that was recently launched in september 2022.

After its most recent launch, the platform will continue to work on the development of new modules on the different topics that make up regenerative agriculture.

The successful completion of each of the modules is certified by the platform through the generation of personalized diplomas with the user's data, specifying which topics were studied. The certifications are endorsed by Syngenta and by the collaborators who participated in their construction.

Each module of #PROagricultor addresses a different topic and, therefore, its development counted on the collaboration of different research centers, NGOs, certifiers and sectoral experts, such as Oliver Bach from the Sustainable Agriculture Network (SAN); Marco Villegas from Global G. A.P.; Gisela Kopper of Laboratorio Tecnológico del Uruguay (LSQA); Miguel Hernández of Bonsucro; Yasmina Neustadtl of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and Jelle Van Loon of the Centro Internacional de Mejoramiento de Maíz y Trigo (CIMMYT).

In order to generate dynamic learning, the platform features practical videos, interactive audio, live transmissions with experts, images and infographics, games and certificates.

#PROagricultor is now launched in El Salvador and is also available in Central American countries such as Guatemala and Costa Rica. In addition to 20 Latin American countries, from Mexico to Peru, Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay and Chile.

The new platform seeks to promote actions consistent with current global issues such as climate change, the need to guarantee the countryside for future generations, the protection of biodiversity and the promotion of the appropriate use of natural resources.

With its target group in mind, the platform was designed to be accessible from any browser and smart device, with the possibility of saving the progress achieved by the user. Its compatibility with 3G networks allows its use in areas with lower connectivity coverage.

#PROgricultor, the free online training platform for sustainable agriculture, can be accessed at www.proagricultor.com

The platform seeks to build a community called Los Héroes del Campo, made up of farmers and actors in the agricultural industry who actively participate within the social dynamics and contribute to feeding the world, through training to drive the transition to a regenerative agriculture model.
