The strategies promoted by the Central Government continue to give excellent results to El Salvador, which has positioned itself in the eyes of the world as a safe country and international tourist destination.

Proof of this is that, between january 1 and december 4, The Aeropuerto Internacional de El Salvador San Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez has handled more than 3,143,481 passengers, informed the Comisión Ejecutiva Portuaria Autónoma (CEPA).

This amount of passengers has passed through the country's air terminal as arrivals, departures, transit and transshipment in 32,084 commercial passenger flight operations, confirmed the referred institution.

The news was confirmed Wednesday by CEPA President Federico Anliker: "This year we have registered historic figures in the number of passengers entering through El Salvador's International Airport".

"We are going to surpass the passenger statistics before the pandemic, not only in terms of travelers but also in commercial passenger flight operations", the official said.

In 2019, which was the pre-pandemic year, the main salvadoran airport mobilized 3,720,379 incoming, outgoing, transit and connecting or transfer passengers, in 2020 the figure dropped to 1,082,810 and last year increased to 2,517,000, according to the official tally.

The minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez, has stated on several occasions that the goal of international tourists (which is not the same as passengers) projected for this year, initially 1.9 million, was surpassed in october, when the arrival of more than 2 million had been registered.

Due to this, she said that the projection of tourist arrivals for this year was increased to 2.4 million. Likewise, she said that for next year the goal has been set at 2.7 million foreign tourists.
