When there is any excess in withholdings to the taxpayer, the Central Government disburses funds to compensate what has been over deducted to the taxpayer, but until the respective ISR return has been made.

According to the information provided by the Ministry of Finance, to date 266,413 refunds have already been paid, so that all the tax brackets have been covered (That is to say, according to the month in which the report was submitted to the Ministry).

In total, the Treasury required US$36.2 million to comply with this obligation, a figure very similar to that which has been settled in previous years.

In the case of some taxpayers who have refunds from previous years pending, that is to say before 2021, they may seek advice from the División de Fondos Ajenos en Custodia, which is part of the Dirección General de Tesorería (DGT), to help them speed up their processes.

The head of the MH, Alejandro Zelaya, said that tax collection has increased by an estimated 15% up to october of this year, compared to the same period last year. The ISR is among the taxes with the highest growth rate.

According to the institution, the Anti-evasion Plan is the strategy that has considerably improved collection levels, both in terms of quantity and progressiveness (that each person pays according to his or her capacity).

Some of the actions that are part of this Plan include the Anti-smuggling Plan and the Tax Amnesty. This year, this Amnesty generated the collection of more than US$100 million in taxes and contributions that had not been reported correctly, explained minister Zelaya.
